I decided to go through the various family paintings to see what look I really liked, and this miniature painting of Susie and Charlotte from 1808 was it! But look at that hair. Nothing long about it. So, I went on the forums and asked about places to buy wigs --- started reading all kinds of sites and plowing through options. I knew that I wanted the red tones, because the family tends to everything from Strawberry blonde, Carrot and Auburn. Carrot red looked like a cute idea, but that would limit the clothes she could wear, so we decided to look for auburn. Found a nice place online selling Monique wigs and picked the "Johnny" model in auburn. Now the question was . . . which doll to put it on. I knew that it had to have blue eyes, because that's what most of the family had, and the little girls in the miniature had the heart-shaped mouths and pointy chins. Only one AG face mold fit that bill, as much as I hated to admit it (since I don't care for her): Marie Grace. |
She actually didn't have too much wrong with her (unlike some of the other dolls --- see a post coming soon about a Caroline restoration!). A little oxy treatment on a few spots, new stuffing, washed body, re-strung limbs, and she was ready for a wig! I worked on it yesterday afternoon, and here are photos of the result!
She is an ultra-modern little girl who loves her family history and is going to have a full costume rack. That way, she can dress up like all of her relatives in various portraits (like the little girls above). She has a brother named Eliot (used to be called "Logan"), and his photos will be coming soon!
