We had an enjoyable St. Patrick's Day. We made muffins in shamrock wrappers. And (to get ourselves in the right mood) we've watched an "Irish" movie every evening for the last week. We ended with The Quiet Man, last night! Can't beat that. Elizabeth and I have been keeping busy. We're working on bringing out a new kind of wool doll. Not to mention keeping up with the other things that we've been making. More later.
It's a sure sign of Spring. A week ago Saturday the first skunk came out of hibernation around our house. They are so cute. They look like cats. They can have such beautiful patterns and colors. The question is: How can anything that cute smell so bad?! This was one of the worst skunk experiences that we've ever had. He must have come out of hibernation late Saturday night, because very early on Sunday morning (about 1:20am), he was out eating bird seed that had fallen from the feeders --- and he sprayed the house near the front door. It wreaked all night. We were all sick to our stomachs, and come morning everything in the house smelled like skunk. The worst thing was that it was only about 12'F outside, so it was too cold to open all of the windows before heading out to church. Elizabeth and I had a good laugh, because we found (only once we were at church) that our Bibles smelled awful, too. How embarrassing. Another one came out again this past Saturday and sprayed just as we went to bed. It was not quite as bad this time, though. So, I guess that Spring is finally arriving. Today is supposed to be our first warm day. We've still had nights in the single digits, so it's kind of hard to realize that Spring is so close.

I know your pain. Pearl manage to get sprayed by a skunk twice within a couple months time a couple years ago. I can only imagine how she felt having the smell on her. Those were the only two nights in the almost twelve years she's been with us that she hasn't slept by my bed. It took several weeks and multiple baths with a special mixture of peroxide, baking soda, and Dawn to get the smell completely out. Maybe your skunk friends will decide to go visit someone else soon.

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. BEATRICE: MY HONEY-BEE

My "favorite" member of the Clapham Sect. Not very much is known about him, but what is preserved keeps a beautiful memory alive of an exemplary Christian man. William Wilberforce Quote:
May I look to Him for wisdom and strength and the power of persuasion, and may I surrender myself to Him as to the event with perfect submission, and ascribe to Him all the praise if I succeed, and if I fail say from the heart thy will be done. For you Jesus Christ came into the world. For you he lived and showed God’s love. For you he suffered the darkness of Calvary and cried at the last, ‘It is accomplished.’ For you he triumphed over death and rose to new life. For you he reigns at God’s right hand. All this he did for you, though you do not know it yet.
Where there is one, there is a majority of one; and when the rights of the majority take away from the rights of the one, then the many will themselves suffer.
~Henry David Thoreau~ I often think of Bag End. I miss my books, and my armchair, and my garden. You see, that's where I belong. That's home. That's why I came back, because you don't have one. A home. It was taken from you. But I will help you take it back if I can.
