Well, it has been nine wonderful years so far with Mr. O. He's a pet in a million, and he's Mom's special babe. We joke that he is really our baby brother. Of course, he gets away with a lot more than we ever did!
Yesterday was a big day for Oliver. It marked the ninth anniversary of his arrival at our house! It is hard to imagine that we have had him for nine years. Wow! He just walked into our yard (tailed by two little kittens, Sydney and Dee) and decided we would be "his people". Elizabeth and I did not want a cat. We had lived seven years without one --- and the last cat that we had had been an awful experience. But Mom had been wishing for a cat for two weeks, and she had actually prayed about getting an orange cat. Well, God answered by sending her three. Of course, Oliver was the super one! He has reigned as King of the House since his arrival. And he knows it. :) Oliver's arrival was not exactly seamless --- we thought that he was a "Mama Cat"! We thought that Sydney was his kitten. Oliver did love Sydney like he has never loved another cat or person, but Oliver was just not very maternal. It was not until two days after their arrival that Buddy and Kay came over to see the new pets. Buddy sat on the sofa and saw Oliver prancing across the room and asked for his glasses. "That Mama Cat is a Tom", said Buddy. I was never so happy. I had really wanted a boy kitty --- not a Mama. So, we said goodbye to "Fiona" (as we had named him) and spent a day thinking of a boy name. I got to pick it, so after talking over tons of names we liked Oliver for Oliver Hazard Perry.

Yikes! It seems like time has passed and I completely forgot to blog. Well, I haven't had much time to blog --- which is the real crux of the problem. We have had the busiest Summer and Fall this year and done a ton of canning and freezing. In fact, we have so many jars filled with various things that they have filled the pantry and have to sit out in the Piano room in boxes. Not a bad thing when God blesses you with excess food! We canned 600lbs. of tomatoes in one week. That was a real doosey. We were all pretty beat, but we are now loaded with stewed tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, zucchini salsa, tomato salsa, tomato juice and the like. This photo shows some of the jars. We are way over 500 jars for the year! Mom and I have been going to the produce auction three days a week until last week. We have done very well this year. The freezer is stuffed. Over 500 Poblano peppers are frozen in there for stuffing. Not mention a similar amount of zucchini. Of course, there is a lot of fun stuff sold in the Fall at the auction, too. Fall decorating is one of my favorite things. We've been too busy (and I'm too tired!) to do much this year, but I did put some things out at the front entrance. Something special is the 2014 White Collector's Pumpkin. One of the growers scratched this (see photo) into the pumpkin while it was on the vine and let it scar over. I was so thrilled to get this! Next to it is a giant Swan gourd. I've never seen one this large, so I'm really hoping that it will dry over the Winter. It would be really cool painted! When it comes to decorations, this wasn't my first go at it. I did set up a little farm in the area behind the woodshed. There is another Swan and Eggs set back there, so here are some photos. Dad actually put my garden windmill together this Summer, so I am just thrilled!! He's a handy guy to have around. He also made a little barn to go back there, but it's not in the photos. The Swan comes in a little crate, surrounded by her eggs in a bed of hay, so I'm including a little photo of that, too. These are my all-time favorite decorations! There is no way that I can include all of the produce pictures in this entry, so I will put them up later in a photo gallery. Going back over all the stuff we've canned is pretty fun. I just remembered all of the strawberries and raspberries! More later.

My "favorite" member of the Clapham Sect. Not very much is known about him, but what is preserved keeps a beautiful memory alive of an exemplary Christian man. William Wilberforce Quote:
May I look to Him for wisdom and strength and the power of persuasion, and may I surrender myself to Him as to the event with perfect submission, and ascribe to Him all the praise if I succeed, and if I fail say from the heart thy will be done. For you Jesus Christ came into the world. For you he lived and showed God’s love. For you he suffered the darkness of Calvary and cried at the last, ‘It is accomplished.’ For you he triumphed over death and rose to new life. For you he reigns at God’s right hand. All this he did for you, though you do not know it yet.
Where there is one, there is a majority of one; and when the rights of the majority take away from the rights of the one, then the many will themselves suffer.
~Henry David Thoreau~ I often think of Bag End. I miss my books, and my armchair, and my garden. You see, that's where I belong. That's home. That's why I came back, because you don't have one. A home. It was taken from you. But I will help you take it back if I can.
